Through our years of working with older wood furniture pieces for resale, we at the Whitehouse have come to respect the use of three major names in the restoration world, Howard, Briwax, and E-Z Way paint and varnish stripper. We carry a cross section of each company’s most useful items and any of my staff can give helpful advice on selection and use of these products.
Howard Products
The motto of this company is “Restore It – Don’t Strip It“, and that is exactly what we suggest you do to all of your best loved natural wood furniture pieces, even the ones you buy from us. Following is a list of the Howard Products that we carry, with a little information on each product to help you decide which ones are right for your needs. More detailed information about use of each product is available on the containers and in a free brochure you may pick up at the display within our shop.
Restor-A-Finish
This product is, with out a doubt, Howard’s most useful product.
Simply color match the product to your furniture, then wipe it on and
wipe the excess off to clean the surface and restore the finish in one
step without removing any of the existing finish. This product will
treat scratches, nicks, abrasions, white heat rings, most water or smoke
damage, faded finishes, raised and/or blistered finishes, and minor
crazed or checked finishes. Label directions suggest using super fine
(0000) steel wool (which is very hard to find, so we also carry this
helpful Howard’s product) to help polish out the worst of these
problems.
Owners and Dealers Testimony: I have seen many so-so pieces of
furniture come into my shop, and it has taken Howard’s Restor-A-Finish
only 10 minutes worth of work to turn it into a beautiful piece of
furniture appearing as it must have in it’s young life, very much worthy
of a new home. I can’t tell you how many pieces we have saved with this
product alone.

Feed-N-Wax
This orange oil and wax product can be used both on finished and
unfinished wood surfaces to keep them from drying and cracking. Simply
wipe it on, wait 20 minutes, buff off the excess with a soft cloth.
Feed-N-Wax was developed to be the perfect follow-up after using Restor-A-Finish
to maintain that new just-restored look. Use this product about once a
month to feed and wax all your fine wood furniture. (It also works great
on wood cabinet doors and drawer fronts.)

Orange Oil
This product uses the natural occurring organic solvent properties of
real orange oil to help break down dirt and wax build-up on all of your
household wood surfaces, leaving the pleasing scent of oranges and a
lasting shine. Use this product during your weekly dustings to keep
everything shining.
We stock this product in both 8 oz and 16 oz spray bottles.
Restor-A-Shine Polishing Compound and Burnishing Cream
These are two products that are both safe to use on high shine finishes, such as lacquer, varnish, shellac, and polyurethane finishes. First; Howard’s Polishing Compound is used to polish out fine scratches and revive dull areas in high shine wood finishes. It is especially suggested after you have used Restor-A-Finish and steel wool on those stubborn restoring problems like water rings etc. Second; Howard’s Burnishing Cream is used as a final restoration step to higher gloss restoration projects that need buffing of fine scratches, dullness, and haze to bring the piece back to it’s original condition. This product is suggested after Howard’s Restor-A-Finish and Howard’s Polishing Cream have been used.
Clean-A-Finish
This product is simply a soap type product that is specially formulated to be combined with water, but yet is safely used to clean all wood surfaces. It leaves a nice fresh smell after cleaning. A must for every homemaker.
Pine-Ola Silver Polish
This water-based product easily cleans and polishes without using acids or harsh abrasives, while it retards the tarnish to keep silver bright and lustrous. It is safe to use on all silver, silver plating, and chrome.
Pine-Ola Copper & Brass Polish
This fast-acting, water-based formula eliminates the need for hard rubbing and safely provides a shine that lasts on all ornamental copper, brass, bronze, and stainless steel.
Howard Naturals
Howard’s recently put out an Earth friendly, kid and pet safe, non-toxic, biodegradable line of home cleaning products. These have been created from chemical free all natural vegetable-derived ingredients. I have selected three items from this line of products that I felt our customers might have a need to use in today’s home.
Stainless Steel Cleaner & Polish
This streak-free formula creates a beautiful shine on appliances and all stainless steel surfaces. It is non-toxic and safe for food-handling environments.
Granite & Marble Cleaner
This product safely cleans sealed granite, marble and other natural stone counter and furniture tops. It is also non-toxic and safe for food prep surfaces.
Upholstery Cleaner
Safer than chemical-based cleaners, this product gently removes food, dirt and grime from furniture, oriental rugs and even automotive interiors. This product has the added pleasure of essential oil fragrances such as vanilla, sandalwood, or lavender.
Briwax is also a color coded wood finish product used to protect,
restore, and recondition fine furniture, especially antiques, to their
original patina. Briwax is excellent for those antique wood surfaces
that have very little original finish left, but that you wish to bring
back to the natural wood color and show off the original wood grain.
Unfinished wood surfaces will need to be lightly sanded, then the Briwax
color of choice applied, and then buffed to a deep new luster. Finished
woods can also benefit from Briwax but only if applied and buffed with a
very small amount of wax. This product is an exceptional product for
wood floors. It never yellows and it resists scratching. Problem areas
can be helped with Briwax and super fine (0000) oil-free steel wool. I
stock the following Briwax colors: Clear, Golden Oak, Light Brown,
Rustic Pine, Antique Mahogany, Tudor Brown, Dark Brown.

E-Z Way Paint and Varnish Stripper
This stripping product is the number one choice of all master refinishers. It will not raise the grain, turn the wood fuzzy, bleach the wood, nor will it harm the patina. This is a nonmethylene chloride stripper that is safe for your priceless antiques, and the safest product of it’s kind for you and the environment. Caution is important when using any chemical substance, so please read the label or our free brochure carefully before using this product. I stock the easy to use semi-paste formula. This formula is thickened to reduce evaporation and odor, as well as making it easier to use on vertical surfaces. I only stock the quart bottles at this time. Priced at suggested market rates.
